Get to know: Paolo Leo Pianerosse Nero di Troia Puglia IGP 2023
A characterful Italian red wine from the sun-drenched vineyards of Puglia in southern Italy.
Tasting Note
Paolo Leo Pianerosse Nero di Troia 2023 is a full-bodied red that brings together ripe fruit and a gentle spicy edge in a beautifully balanced style. Deep ruby red with violet tinges, it opens with pronounced aromas of ripe red fruits, currant jam, raspberry, and hints of plum and black pepper. On the palate, this Nero di Troia is rich yet fresh, with juicy red berry flavours layered alongside subtle spice and a smooth, rounded texture. It finishes with a medium-long, fruity and lightly peppery aftertaste. An interesting Puglia red wine that offers both warmth and freshness, making it a great all-rounder at the table.
Top food pairings:
- Roast lamb or beef with Mediterranean herbs
- Rich pasta dishes with tomato or ragu sauces
- Cured meats and aged cheeses
Kate Says
"If you like your reds generous but not heavy, this is spot on – lots of juicy fruit with just enough spice to keep things interesting."
Producer Info
Paolo Leo is a fifth-generation family winery based in San Donaci in the heart of Puglia, southern Italy. Their vineyards benefit from the warm Mediterranean climate and coastal influences, allowing them to craft expressive Italian red wines that balance ripeness with freshness. Sustainability and quality are central to their philosophy, supported by ongoing investment in both vineyard and winery.
